Durham County Council
Neville's Cross is a suburb to the west of Durham City, the county town and main administrative centre for County Durham. Durham County Council is the local authority for County Durham and is made up of an elected assembly of 126 councillors accountable to over half a million people. The council is responsible for providing a wide range of public services to the people of the county. Powers and responsibilities are determined by Parliament with county council elections held every four years.
Durham County Council and the former Durham City Council merged on 1st April 2009, forming one unitary authority. For several years this left Durham City, including Neville's Cross, as an 'unparished' area within the county. To rectify this, the City of Durham Parish Council was created.
